The Witchlight has as its inspiration the works for string orchestra of 20th-Century British and Irish composers including, Granville Bantock, Arnold Bax, Benjamin Britten, Peter Warlock and John Ireland, whose paeans to music were often inspired by the landscape in which they worked and lived. The works of these composers are meticulously composed and inventive in their use of counterpoint.
