ED GOYER
Classically trained, Ed Goyer graduated from
the Conservatorium of Music in 1997 after studying jazz vibraphone with Daryl Pratt and
jazz harmony and arranging with Mike Nock. Since then Ed has performed and recorded with
many Australian artists such as Jenny Morris, Paul Mac, Sydney Chamber Orchestra and ARIA
award nominated band, CODA in which he was a member for some years. His extensive career
as a freelance percussionist has seen Ed perform at many regional and interstate festivals
such as WOMAD Adelaide and the Bellingen Music Festival. He also spent two years in Tokyo,
Japan teaching and performing.
Ed completed his Masters of Music in Composition in 2008 under the supervision of Houston
Dunleavy at the University of Wollongong. Eds compositional interests are the fusion
of musical elements from various cultures especially the traditional music of Japan and
East Asia with jazz rhythms and structures. His interests also include writing for small
ensembles, percussion groups and computer generated compositions mixed with live
instrumental performances.
In 2008 he released the album Dichotomies at the Sound Lounge in Sydney
featuring Eds original compositions and performances on the jazz vibraphone with
musicians Mark Costa, Gordon Rytmeister, Sam Rollings and Kelvin Haisman.
Ed is currently lecturing at Wollongong TAFE in performance techniques and
harmony/arranging as well as freelance performing and teaching jazz piano/vibraphone and
percussion.
