R J Stove was born in Sydney in 1961. He attended the NSW Conservatorium High
School and graduated in History and Italian from Sydney University in 1984.
His biography of Palestrina, Prince of Music, appeared in 1990. For most
of the 1990's he was an editorial assistant and reviewer at the now defunct music magazine
"Soundscapes", as well as a broadcaster on Sydney's 2MBS-FM. He now lives
and works in Melbourne, his duties there include the roles of organist and assistant
choirmaster for a Melbourne suburban church.
He has composed since his adolescence primarily solo songs and choral works,
with a few instrumental (mostly organ) works also. The main influences on his style
have been Hindemith, Walton, Honegger and Reger. In June 2003 Sydney's Grevillea
Ensemble gave the first performance of his three Dorothy Parker settings.
