A MUSIC LOVER'S ANTHOLOGY
Patrick Thomas.
- Some musical vignettes, thoughts and profiles -
$25.00 plus postage
As Patrick says whilst poetry is not everyones cup of tea in this day and
age this anthology is penned for music lovers. It provides poetic insight into many
composers and their work. Only a conductor with an overview of a work is able do this, but
it is a rare one indeed who can create the word pictures as portrayed in this small
book.
Not content with great composers, the poet describes the growth of the Sydney Opera House
and not surprisingly portrays affection for his alma mater, the Queensland Symphony
Orchestra. The late celebrity flautist, our very own Neville Amadio, and Australia's
famous diva, coloratura soprano, June Bronhill, are also remembered with a fondness we all
feel for them.
This will be a useful addition to your reference library and will surely grace the homes
of many music lovers in the years ahead.
"This collection of poems is typical of Patricks personality, professionalism,
depth of feeling, and his dry sense of humour which really can tickle ... some quirky
insights into the magic of music". Gerard Willems.
Patrick Thomas, M.B.E., noted orchestral and opera conductor, made his
first ABC broadcast as a flautist in Brisbane at the age of 12. His subsequent career in
the performing arts both nationally and internationally, has extended over sixty years,
and for much of that time as a familiar figure on Australias national music scene
where he conducted many hundreds of concerts.
