    Trio (1918)

    By Gladys Bruer

    Regular price $70.00 Sale

Trio in four movements for violin, cello and piano

    • Adagio – Allegro moderato
    • Scherzo – Vivo
    • Andantino cantabile
    • Allegro vivace

The trio is in four movements and is late romantic in style and concept. “Bruer showed a thorough musical knowledge, a distinct sense of harmony, and a facility for producing fine chords.” The piano part is particularly virtuosic attesting to both Bruer’s own skills and those of Brewster-Jones who was to be the first performer of the work.

The first performance was 27th January 1919, by Hooper Brewster Jones, piano, Bertha Jones, violin and Harold Parsons, cello.
    Composed 1918

        Trio (1944)

        By Dulcie Holland

        Regular price $120.00 Sale

For violin, violoncello and piano, c.15'00

The trio is in three movements opening with a very sombre and dark first movement, containing echoes of the Englishness of John Ireland, a sprightly scherzo, with a rapturous central theme, for a second movement and a lively third movement. There is a wonderful dialogue created between all three instruments in all the movements.
The work is not technically challenging but containing musical depth and a wide palette of various colour possibilities. Composed 1932

Researched and editedd by Jeanell Carrigan

Trio - flute, viola and piano

        By Meta Overman

        Regular price $60.00 Sale

Trio for flute, viola and piano, c.8'00

Overman was a student of Willem Pijper. Like the other student works composed at this time the trio is quite a short work in three movements and the harmonic language is non-tonal using the ‘germ cell’ motivic construction model adapted by Pijper.
        • Allegro, un poco maestoso
        • Lento
        • Allegro vivo

        Composed in 1940

        Edited by Jeanell Carrigan.

Trio - Violin, Viola and Cello

        By Meta Overman

        Regular price $60.00 Sale

Three movements for violin, viola and cello
        Composed 1963.

It is a dramatic work, and a great deal of the writing suggests proclamations which are in unison between the parts. The third movement is a theme and set of four variations demonstrating Overman’s particular talent in innovative variation technique.

        • Andante energico – Allegro moderato
        • Molto tranquillo
        • Theme and Variations.
The manuscripts have been researched and edited by Jeanell Carrigan, 2021.

              Trio Lamorna (1933)

              By Frank Hutchens

              Regular price $70.00 Sale

Trio in three movements for violin, cello and piano

              • Allegro Moderato – Andante
              • Adagio – Piu Mosso
              • Poco Andante - Allegro

The name “Lamorna” comes perhaps from the Cornish word meaning a traditional folk song/ ballad associated with Cornwall and dealing with the courtship of a man and a woman. Although the premiere performance was given in November 1933, the only existing manuscript was in a lamentable and unfinished state.  There were so few piano trios written before 1935 by any Australian composer and it is hoped that the reconstruction of this lovely work will be a welcome addition to the repertoire.
