Part of the Osanna Mass which is based on the set of plainchants for the Mass, Kyriale IX and several Jewish liturgical melodies. The Benedictus incorporates a Jewish melody for the Aleinu prayer (a hymn of praise) and melodies derived from the song of several birds local to Sydney, including the magpie, blackbird and currawong. The Mass won the Australian Art Music award for vocal/choral composition in 2012.
The Osanna Mass was written for the Sydney Chamber Choir, conducted by Paul Stanhope and recorded by Tall Poppies (TP219). Audio sample from the CD Osanna, used with permission.
