Tales from the Dress-Up Box, Op.73, Nos.1-10
By Victor Morrison
Regular price
$250.00
Ballet Suite of 10 movements for String Orchestra.
Total duration c.70'00 - 90'00
This music is a celebration of the imagination of children. Each movement involves flights of fancy as if through the eyes of children who invent exciting exploits. The narrative may be used as a future guide for a ballet company's development of characters, plot, choreography, set-design, costumes and other logistics. However, the music may function without programmatic elements.
In this suite, events take place within children's imagined-worlds of fantasy, magic, friendship and love. Set against the Australian bush, characters range from humans to fairies, to animals and spirits - to toys that can come alive. They are the equivalent of traditional European fairy tales, but set in an ancient land, with its own indigenous spirits and mythological characters playing alongside.
Colour plates for projection are available.

Tallawarra
By John Peterson

String Quartet, c.4'00
The surging 11/8 rhythm dominates the work and propels the music along, while the melodic lines, in their sinuous way, try to reflect the original meaning of the Aboriginal word, Tallawarra - "slippery place".
Tallawarra was commissioned by Musica Viva Australia as part of the "Australian Miniatures" Project for Musica Viva Australia?s International Series in 2000.

Tallebudjera
By Linda Dalgliesh
Regular price
$30.00
This piece is a distillation of my fishing, swimming, and birdwatching activities around Tallebudgera Creek [sic] on Queensland's Gold Coast. The creek mouth was all sandbars and flathead holes, dolphins and pelicans. The marimba represents water; the waves, tidal ebb and flow. The woodwinds represent the birds and fish. There are interweaving motifs describing the movement of the animals.

A dialogue in voice and song
Edgar “Yip” Harburg, an American lyricists known as “Broadway’s social conscience,” said, "Words make you think a thought. Music makes you feel a feeling. A song makes you feel a thought." This project strives to do just that through the exploration of new art songs for soprano, tenor, baritone, and piano. The project originated out of a need for English language duets between tenor and baritone and grew into much more. At its very essence the project is about the joys and struggles of life. It includes songs born out of the pandemic (Modern Folksong), everyday activities (Life & Southern Songs), and special moments in life (Set Me as a Seal). Anchoring these songs is Tangling with the Epic, a song cycle for tenor, baritone, and piano.

Tango (February)
By Diana Blom
Regular price
$20.00
This is one of five tangos by the composer for solo piano. Dance teacher Ian Murphy tells how the Argentinian tango began in the ghettos of Buenos Aires, with dance steps grouped in 5s and 7s which worked across the music's phrasing. However, when taken to Europe extra dance steps were invented to fit into groups of 8s. This piece explores the grouping of 5.
