The music’s concept is inspired by a beautiful poem called A Great Wagon by Rumi, one of the great masters of Persian Sufi poetry. The imagery in the piece is gleaned from the second stanza:
Inside your face the ancient manuscripts seem like rusty mirrors.
The music moves in stages through various textures, tempi and time signatures, while the harmonies are essentially open and clear, they contain tinges of dissonance and hints of bitonality which ultimately find resolution. This process invites the listener to reflect and imagine, as if through the rust of antiquity. Composed 2020
