This delightful work for violin and piano has never been published and on the manuscript, there was no composition date. It belongs to works composed in a Jewish style of which Phillips established herself as one of the leading composers in Australia in the twentieth century. The work is in ternary form and characterised by an interplay of melodies between the two instruments.

This delightful work was not previously published, and the manuscript contained no composition date. It holds the subtitle – Palestinian Air (Shir he-Roeh) and was dedicated to flute player Richard Chugg. The program of the work is “The Shepherd is minding his flock on the hills of Palestine. He tells of his sheep and his little goats, black and white; of the coming of the evening and a simple meal by the stream. He pipes a tune and dances with joy.” (Australian Jewish News, June 25th, 1937).

The title refers to a “Jewish hymn which in various rituals shares with Adon 'Olam the place of honour at the opening of the morning and the close of the evening service.” The words sung during the prayer can be translated as “may He be magnified.” Phillips wrote this work for violin and piano using the material associated with this hymn in a one movement work.
