Craters of Rhea - Double Bass
By Keyna Wilkins
Regular price
$20.00
The composer imagines the craggy and sharp but beautiful shapes of the ice craters of Rhea (second largest of Saturn's moons) and interprets them musically in the opening motifs. The loop pedal for electric double bass is explored with use of a repeated and recorded 5 bar theme over which there is some notated lines and some structured improvisation, giving the work an optimistic resolution.

From a Lake of Honey (modified double bass)
By Betty Beath
Regular price
$20.00
This piece was written for Allan Von Schenkel's instrument, the Solo Bass, tuned one fourth higher than the orchestra bass. "I do this", he said, "because it has a colorful solo voice with a wide range and because it removes many of the technical limitations of the bass" and "I read music at the sounding pitch like the cello". From a Lake of Honey is a piece which might 'sing'. It is really a landscape of the mind, a simple musical work, which gives opportunities for an imaginative collaboration between performers and audience as they 'journey' to a 'lake of honey'.
