Barbara Durham
Born 1952 in Sunshine, Victoria, Barbara trained at Melbourne University obtaining degrees of B.Mus and B.Mus.Ed, and Grad Dip Lib at Canberra University.
Her career has included many years of private teaching, mostly piano being her main instrument, and 16 years with the Education Department teaching woodwind, mainly flute, and conducting bands.
She started composing in 2001. Most of her works are piano solos, some of which are on both the AMEB and VCE exam syllabuses. Other works are for flute and piano, ensembles, concert band and choral.
Nature and Australiana has influenced many of her pieces as exemplified in her piano solos and the choral work ‘The Lyrebird’. The latter piece has been performed by the Melbourne Women’s Choir, conducted by Faye Dumont in May 2014.
