Yvonne Barton-Leach
Yvonne Barton-Leach holds Graduate and Postgraduate qualifications in composition. Her teachers have included Houston Dunleavy, Simone East and Anton Koch.
Yvonne has pursued a career as a freelance composer, arranger and conductor. Currently she is the conductor of a number of Primary School Concert Bands, as well she conducts both adult and childrens’ choirs including the Caecilian (German) Choir, and Menai Community Choir.
Her works have been featured at concerts in Sydney, such as the 2011 "Dreams and Visions" concert and the Australian Institute of Music “Composition Showcase”. She was the first prize winner of the Sydney International Brass Festival 2013 Composition Competition which included her world premiere performance.
Her compositional interests include music for concert bands, orchestra, chamber ensembles, opera, the voice, and real time visual electro-acoustic performance art.
Yvonne has studied conducting under the tutelage of Hans-Dieter Michatz, Simon Kenway and Dr Sarah Penika-Smith. She has been actively involved in choirs and other musical opportunities since 5 years of age, including being a former French Horn player in concert bands.
