Learne Faint

Learne Faint is a dynamic innovative teacher of music specialising in both individual and group learning for Piano and Theory.  A Hands-On Composer creating pattern friendly music featuring strong melodic lines and rich harmonies for solo piano, voice and multiple hands (duets, trios, two pianos) from beginner to Certificate levels.  She is a Professional Pianist and Vocalist having performed on the world stage.

Learne developed and implemented an Early Education Music Program incorporating music, motion and imagination.

Many of her compositions for solo and multiple-hand piano are published by Wirripang. These include Fire Dance At The Billabong (Prep to Grade 4) Australiana Soundscapes such as Black Mountain (Certificate) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3D0dxqVFrkM all of which capture the essence of our vast and diverse land, and many more.

She taught piano on the Gold Coast for thirty years before travelling Australia to further her compositional aspirations.  Learne now lives in Bundaberg Queensland with her husband.  She is blessed with two married sons and four beautiful grandchildren.

Learne has had a richly varied background in music, from Scottish folk songs at her Grandmother’s knee to songs and stories from her Cornish Grandfather.  Raised on a farm in the black soil plains of Brigalow, she took her first piano lessons at age 4 from her older sister, later undertaking her AMEB grounding and enhancing this by association with other musicians whose fields included voice, jazz, recording, ethnomusicology, and music education pedagogy.

A victim of childhood rheumatic fever, Learne listened intently to music from ABC Classical radio during her confinement and long recuperation developing a love of the grandeur of Grieg, Chopin, and Rachmaninoff as well as programmatic music that fuelled her vivid imagination with melodies, stories and poetic images.

In 2003 she wrote and produced ‘Turn to the Light’, twenty-one tracks of original music to raise funds for Youth Suicide Prevention. This allowed many packages of Help When You Need It by leading child psychologist Michael Carr Gregg to be placed in schools on the Gold Coast and round Australia.

In 2007 she was commissioned to add vocals to old Celtic favourites and Braveheart theme - writing the only original lyrics to this iconic piece. These were added to Celtic Whispers, a CD of original music and sold as a double CD.  Learne also performed at both the Opening Ceremonies of the Oceania and World Roller Skating Championships that year.

She won the Open Section of the Gold Coast Composers Competition in 2008 with Like Horses (piano/vocal solo) published by Wirripang and won The Australian Music Centre Award for Vocal Work with Cross Rivers in 2014.

Recently, Learne had her work Honey Eater Waltz chosen to be included in the Australian Women Composers Anthology IIhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Md6kRGoUMxM.  Her work Rhapsodic Episodes a certificate level piece was also included in Australian Women Composers Anthology III.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_oX0O2n5so   These have since been published by Wirripang and performed and recorded by Dr Katie Zukhov.

Learne was commissioned in 2020 by the Riverina Conservatorium of Music to write an Australiana Duet for Piano. Extreme Land My Country. Live @ Lunch - Australian Made was performed and live streamed in April 2021.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJzpnfB_wK4&t=6s (at 39.55).

In 2023, accomplished Pianist Catherine Lynagh is presenting a Concert Series Australian Landscape in Poetry in Music around Queensland. This includes works by Australian Composers and Poets. Learne is excited that her Australian soundscape Black Mountain is featured in this performance.

Learne has always been active and a keen sportswoman and currently rows with her husband Peter. She has competed from Club to National level and also competed at the 2009 World Masters Rowing Championships.  Learne is also a keen photographer and poet using both mediums as inspiration for her music.
