John D'Arcy

John D'Arcy B.Mus (Comp) Syd Uni, Dip Ed. For 25 years, John conducted weekend and Summer School workshops for students of all ages, especially in conjunction with Suzuki Talent Education.
As a conductor John worked with The Blue Mountains Orchestra, Penrith High Concert Band, Northside Youth Orchestra, Suzuki String Orchestra, Peter Seymour Orchestra (Sydney Youth Orchestras), Stanley St Big Band, St Ives Singers, Sheldon Symphony Orchestra, Lane Cove Youth Orchestra, and more recently with the Highlands Theatre Group Orchestra. He formed the Tutor's Orchestra Southern Highlands (TOSH) and is currently conductor of the Highland Singers, and Sing Australia Southern Highlands (SASH).
As a musical director he has worked with Salad Days, Pajama Game, Turtle Drum, Tom Sawyer, Manutea, Noyes Fludde (Benjamin Britten), Wizard of Oz, and various 'Parent Reviews', Back to the Eighties, Charades, Summer Rain, Sanity Clause, Anything Goes, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Sleeping Beauty, Jekyll and Hyde, Alice in Wonderland and Rumplestiltskin, and more recently I Love You, You're Perfect and Chicago.
As a composer John wrote a musical "Rumplestiltskin" with John Forbes (young playwright). His output includes orchestral settings and arrangements, but he prefers smaller groups such as Orff percussion, quartets, SATB choir or solo songs. Some of his choral pieces have been performed in Europe and America as well as in Australia.
As a performer he has sung in the Sydney Chorale, Lachrymae Singers, Bundanoon Voices, and taken lead roles in "Noyes Fludde", “Orfeus in the Underworld", "Back to the Eighties", "My Fair Lady", "Sanity Clause" and "The Music Man". He has performed as piano soloist and repetiteur regularly since moving to the Highlands 16 yrs ago.  Since 2010 John was the solo musician on piano for Silent Movies, shown monthly at Mittagong, and now in Sydney run by the Silent Music Festival. He regularly plays solo piano at wedding and party functions, Harvey’s Bar and is the organist for three churches.
John has been teaching piano at Powerpoint Music, Bowral and at his home studio for the last ten years.
