Evening Under the Hill
By Miriam Hyde
Regular price
$20.00
Violin and piano, c.1'40
Inspired by a party in the garden of Springfield House at the foot of the Adelaide Hills. As guests wandered about the beautiful grounds in the late afternoon, the shadows of trees lengthened across the lawn and the foothills began to darken. There is a rather restless middle section, rising to a climax, before the return of the main theme. Finally, peace returns, and the change to the major key (in the coda) tells us to look at the sky, where a few stars have come out, as the piano part mounts to its last high, silvery chord.

Fantasia on a Mongolian Folk Tune
By Tony Wheeler
Regular price
$20.00
This piece is written in the spirit of variations, but does not adhere strictly to that form. The main theme is a Mongolian folk song, Gada Meiren. Gada Meiren led a revolt around the 1930’s, protesting against the sale of Mongolian land. The uprising was unsuccessful, but nevertheless Gada Meiren is regarded as the national hero of Inner Mongolia. Composed 2017.

Fantasy Trio
By Dulcie Holland
Regular price
$70.00
For violin, cello and piano , c.17'00
It is a work in one movement. Within the movement there is a mixture of a standard sonata-allegro form and three distinct movements characterized by different tempi.
The trio is very late romantic in style with occasional glimpses of harmony which could have been used by one of the impressionist composers such as Ravel, Fauré or Debussy. Considering it is such an early work it shows wonderful maturity and great promise for the compositions which would follow.
Composed 1938
The volume includes a CD performed by Goetz Richter (violin), Minah Choe (cello) and Jeanell Carrigan (piano). Fantasy Trio is also recorded on In Tribute (Wirr 105) available online

Genji (the Shining Prince) and the Koto Player
By Diana Blom
Regular price
$30.00
Violin and piano, c.8'30
The story of "The Tale of Genji" is full of musical references and is portrayed in this piece. Genji, himself, plays the wagon, a six-stringed koto considered old-fashioned in the story, while the key women in his life play the kin, a seven-stringed, unfretted koto from China. Several modes are mentioned including the richi (ryo) and ritsu modes, to indicate a change of mood. Poems which have a constant role in special conversations are described as tanka (short song), waka (long song) or simply uta (song).

Guluu
By Keyna Wilkins
Regular price
$20.00
Guluu (or Australian Magpie in the First Nations Gamilaroi language from Northern NSW) is one of Australia's most well-known songbirds with an array of complex vocalisations. This piece is based on some of those patterns.
“According to the Mandalbingu people, a long time ago the sky was very close to the Earth and it was dark. Everyone had to crawl about the earth in darkness. The intelligent magpies decided that if they worked together they could raise the sky upwards to create more room for all. They did this by lifting the sky upwards by using long sticks. As they pushed the sky even higher it suddenly split open to usher in the first sunrise. The blanket of darkness broke up into fragments and drifted away as clouds. The magpies burst into song and from that time onwards they have greeted the sunrise with their warbling song.” - (Ragbir Bhathal, Aboriginal Astronomy)

Gypsy Dance
By Marcus Roberts
Regular price
$25.00
For guitar and violin, c.3'30
Imagine a caravan of Gypsys travelling across the countryside with a couple “jamming” out this tune around a fire, playing robustly and with passion. This piece is fun to play and has a Gypsy Jazz feel at times. Some of the unison runs are tricky but work well together, further adding to the Gypsy Jazz vibe.
