The composer suggests performers sing the 1662 English but apply contemporary context, moving beyond a literal interpretation.The work ebbs and flows between consonance and dissonance, reflecting the drama of the Canticle. Some of the intervals and rhythms may challenge inexperienced singers; aural cues from the piano part and canonic patterns that move from one vocal part to another will help singers to find their way when learning their parts.
