Rachel Tolmie

Rachel TolmieRachel Tolmie [oboe and cor anglais] completed her Master of Music (Performance) degree in 2011 at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music majoring in oboe and cor anglais.  In 2006 Wirripang published her book titled An Introduction to the Cor anglais and Oboe with the CD Simply, Cor anglais.  Rachel recently released her sixth CD with the Wirripang label titled Goldleafing a Dream which features the poetic music of Australian composer, Phillip Wilcher.  As an Australian professional musician, fortunate to work and live in this magnificent country, Rachel believes that an essential part of her job is the seeking out, promotion through performance, and expansion of Australian oboe and cor anglais repertoire.
Rachel also has extensive orchestral experience.  Currently she is a casual player with Opera Australia and the State Opera of Victoria.  She was the Principal Oboist of the East-West Philharmonic Orchestra (the former pops orchestra of the QVB) for many years and is a long-time regular player in the Central Coast music scene.  On successful completion of her Fellowship in Music Australia Diploma, awarded by the AMEB in 1995, Rachel travelled to England and completed with Distinction, a Post-Graduate Diploma at the Royal College of Music, London, specialising in Solo and Chamber Music Performance.  Rachel is also an experienced oboe teacher, currently teaching at the Central Coast Conservatorium and in 2012 she will start work at Sydney Grammar Preparatory School.
