The Appassionato Duet is a virtuosic, passionate work featuring dramatic dialogue between the piano and the viola. It employs a quasi-double Sonata form, allowing both instruments to shift between the leading and accompanying roles. Among the contrasting textures of the two instruments, this intricate Allegretto shifts with tight lightness and balance, and sections of heavier resonance. The codettas of each section culminate in a technical choreography of musical calls and responses, creating a stimulating soundscape for both players and listeners.
