Camel Bells

Trio for violin, viola and piano, c.8'15.  

The camel train plods steadily and patiently through an endless desert, a harsh environment where humans and camels benefit greatly from mutual support. The first section of this contemporary style piece is partly improvised, while the second is more rhythmically structured. Careful listening reveals the sound of the bells around the camels’ necks, gently marking the caravan’s progress. Middle Eastern scales abound in the florid string passages
