Orchestral, c.33'00
While there is some precedent for the concerto grosso to be written for Christmas, research suggests that the present work is the first Christmas organ concerto. The organ part in this new work is not necessarily virtuosic as is common with solo concertos, but its role is integral and it carries many of the main themes and solos. Moreover, the colours of organ stops are important in the orchestration, so registrations have been suggested as an aid to the performer. There are times, by contrast, when it accompanies some of the other instruments.
