Four Birdsong Inventions (piccolo)

Four movements for piccolo.  Total duration c.9'00

• Pre-dawn Song
• Territorial Song
• Courting Song
• Avian Dance Song

This work uses fragments of Pied Butcherbird songs recorded and transcribed by the composer. It extends this material by using a variety of compositional development techniques. The work was originally composed for sopranino recorder. This version for piccolo is transposed down a fourth and includes detailed dynamic gradations that would not be possible on a recorder
