Haiku I (Three Reflections) is a continuous setting of three haiku by the Australian poet Robert Dickins. Each haiku is a meditation. The first begins with a celebration of unbounded energy in the natural world, ending abruptly with a somber reflection on the limitations of human experience. The two haiku that follow are night pieces, each one an inward reflection on the stillness and beauty that comes with the end of the day.
The instrumentation has been chosen to carry the emotional content of the words.
