Hiraeth

Piano Trio in six movements, c.19'00

Hiraeth is a Welsh word that roughly translates as ‘longing’. Longing for the past, a person or a place, or a sense of belonging that may just be imaginary. It’s essentially a romantic idea, which threads through 19^th century poetry, music and painting. The tune from the beautiful Welsh traditional song Hireath, appears in the final movement where it becomes a valedictory signal of hope and renewed connection.
