Many of Rachmaninoff’s compositions were conceived and developed at Ivanovka, an isolated Russian country estate in the Tambov region about 600 kilometres south east of Moscow. He found inspiration and creative ease in the beautiful and peaceful surroundings. A number of works that he composed in those years are referenced in this work.
