The German Christmas carol In Dulci Jubilo, dating to around 1328, has been beloved for centuries. According to tradition, the mystic Heinrich Seuse heard angels singing these very words and joined them in a dance of worship, praising the Christ-child. The original text interweaves Latin and German, symbolising the meeting of the sacred and the earthly, and the carol was originally sung in canon.
