A pedagogically challenging yet poetic Etude.  It presents elements of the Modern Romantic idiom – minimalism, dissonance and syncopation, whilst remaining lyrical.  Detailed articulation creates divergent additive rhythms, which are played in opposing hands, without the change of time signatures.  The use of repeated patterning assists in developing the skills to overcome these technical difficulties. This poignant piece unfolds layer by layer, as it builds in both intensity and complexity.  Sensitive use of rubato and pedal is required throughout.
