Ingratiatingly Friendly Ghost, The

For solo piano,  c.3'35.  Grade 7/8

The opening higher pitched flourish is almost immediately answered by a markedly contrasting and deeper voice. The juxtaposition of these divergent sonorities, the unfolding of germinally related thematic motives and the changing effects in the slightly “jazzical” tonality represent the interjections of the playful ghost. The contrasting higher and deeper sonorities of this piece which reflect this imagery should be played with gaiety as well as an artistic sensitivity. The damper pedal should be used to sustain some of the bass sounds, but care should be taken not to blur the changing chordal tonalities scattered throughout this humorous piece.
