SATB choir and piano. An anthem in tribute to Gospel Music, c.3'45
The words are adapted from a nineteenth century hymn "Joy cometh in the morning" by Mrs MM Weinland (1819-1899).
The Hymn appeal to singers and audiences of a wide range of beliefs and backgrounds, while still being relevant in formal church settings. The anthem would not be difficult for most school or church choirs to learn (large forces are not necessary). The text is biblical (based on Psalm 30:5), but not overtly religious. Nonetheless, the joyous theme and “hallelujah” section make it suitable for Easter celebrations, while a brief reference to the spiritual “Go Tell It On The Mountain” suggests Advent or Christmas.
