Piano Duet, c.3'15. Early grade 3
Handel’s Passacaille from his Keyboard Suite in G minor, HWV 432, is a well-known choice for any duet performance, particularly as its climactic theme lends itself easily to rote learning. This arrangement extends the work to a satisfying recital length. A passacaille is a style of music, where the form is built on a repeating bass line or harmonic pattern, known as a ground bass. Over this constant foundation, a series of variations is developed, allowing the music to evolve in texture, complexity, and expression, while keeping the clear underlying structure. In addition to its performance appeal, this arrangement offers valuable pedagogical opportunities.
