ANZCA syllabus Grade 8; AMEB (C Mus A) Performance CertificateInspired by the Alhambra Palace in Granada (Andalucía), where an intense atmosphere of mystery, wonder and romance has prevailed over a thousand years, this music conjures scenes and impressions gathered from a legend titled “The Pilgrim of Love”. This legend recounts the adventures of Ahmed, a young Moorish prince from Granada who ultimately wins the love and gains the hand of Aldegona, the lovely Christian princess of Toledo. This great quest of forbidden love and seduction involves the unlocking of arcane secrets and ancient wisdom, fantastic spells, strange music and a conspiracy of birds. After many tests and trials, the couple’s desire to be united finally triumphs and they elope on a magic carpet bound for the kingdom of Granada - where they marry and live happily ever after as king and queen.
