Serenade (Piano and String Quartet)

The Serenade began life as a work for piano solo. Hutchens arranged the work for two pianos and then for piano and strings. This version for piano and string quartet was adapted by the editor.

Hutchens musical language could be described as impressionistic, occasionally late romantic, and he used compositional elements found normally in the music of Impressionistic compositions: unsymmetrical phrases, whole tone scales, unresolved dissonances, and harmony, while basically tonal, explores chromaticism.
