Sideband began as a conversation between three composer

colleagues engaged as casual tutors and lecturers at the Sydney

Conservatorium, during 2011. Initial discussions revolved around

ideas for promoting their own music as well as platforming the work

of younger emerging composers that they had engaged with at the Conservatorium. They also felt compelled to champion the important work of Australian composer ‘elders’ who they felt were under represented in recordings and whose music they admired artists.

A major focus for them was to document their personal passions and areas of creative focuses: use of technology, particularly pre-recorded live electronics, the creative process, science as a metaphor for musical processes, chamber music incorporating the voice and experimental percussion techniques.
