Song of Rolling Hills, The (organ)

The Song of Rolling Hills for organ has an undulating melody inspired by the terrains of the Downs in South-East England, hence the title. The work references Delius' titles such as 'The Song of Summer', and indeed the harmonic treatment, based on triads with sevenths and other added notes, has a Delian quality. Its four-part notation reveals an engagement with the textural principles of JS Bach’s chorale harmonisations.
