For String Quartet
The Quartet is cast in the traditional four-movement pattern of the Classical/Romantic string quartet, comprising a sonata-allegro, a ternary form slow movement, a freely constructed scherzo and a loosely sonata-type finale. These traditionally-based structures are handled in a fairly complex harmonic (though not atonal) style in which affinities with a number of early twentieth-century composers may be discerned - including Debussy, Ravel, Bartok, Hindemith and even early (pre-atonal) Schoenberg. The overall stylistic quality is robust, moderately dissonant and contrapuntal.
