This string quartet is seeking to capture the lightness, joviality, and vivid energy of the Sonata Form (in the first and third movements) and to bring contrasting tension through longing, emotional polyphony, and darker, muted tones in the second movement, ‘in the style of a fugue’. One may consider this work a contrast between the lighter classical period style and the sombre romantic-era expressions. It is an intimate set of music not just for the audience to experience, but an expansive interaction of human expression amongst the players.
