A canon is a type of musical puzzle, where the parts are identical but have different starting points. The twelve colourful two-part canons in this book, each lasting one page, were written for educational purposes, and since the parts are identical the music can be first learned in unison, then split up as an ensemble. Canons are effective in one on one studio teaching where the parts are taken by teacher and student, or in group lessons where both parts are played by students, possibly doubling the parts for larger groups.
