Winds Touch Me, The

This is the fifth song in a cycle of eight songs. Libretto is by the composer.

The Bionic Girl, Neo-Tatiana, a creation of the year 2099, is not just a very advanced  technological celebrity vested with extraordinarily intellectual conditioned reflexes and automatic responses. She possesses the human capacity to experience deeply moving emotions, perceptions, as well the ability to feel something physically, especially by touching. She is graced with a heightened awareness of the human psyche, and responds strongly to heat, pain and a range of senses. Together with the inbuilt resilience of her robotic half, she feels a deep sense of obligation and responsibility for her unique heritage - a merger of machine parts with humanly derived DNA and human brain cells, which are the substratum of her AI framework.
The marimba and piano take on the role of the wind, with small recurring motives evoking a gentle tapping motion.
The voice, however, contains a soothing steadiness of line, gentle unchanging arcs of melody, somewhat akin to an East Asian tradition of composition. There is a reluctance to move rapidly, retaining a more stoic feeling of sustained joy. Subtle downward steps in the voice line reflect the ever-existing pathos, the intimate and the emotional.
